300 people evicted in Baringo following government order

The event comes after the government has been trying to drive squatters from forest land.

President William Ruto declared that the government would not engage in negotiations with illegal settlers and ordered the immediate eviction of everyone residing in the Mau Forest.

The government moved to safeguard the forest land on Wednesday by evicting around 300 Baringo County farmers from Koibatek forest farms.

The action comes after Environment CS Soipan Tuya announced a campaign to stop illicit logging and forest encroachment across the nation.

Hundreds of families were seen in a video gathering in the forest to plan their next course of action after being forced to leave.

They promised to hold demonstrations in order to stop what they saw as the government’s “harassment.”
