49 Facebook and Telegram Accounts by KNEC and CAK Officials Used to Leak Exams

49 Facebook and Telegram Accounts by KNEC and CAK Officials Used to Leak Exams

In the meeting between between MPs, Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK), it was revealed that 49 social media accounts were used by officials to leak exams.

David Njengere, the chief executive of the KNEC, expressed concern over the early release of national examinations and requested assistance in shutting down Telegram and Facebook accounts used to commit exam fraud at the beginning of December of last year.

‘‘Early exposure of national examination papers on social media platforms is an emerging threat KNEC is currently grappling with.

“To avert this threat, the council is requesting assistance from your organisation to pull down some identified Telegram Channels and Facebook Forums,’’ Dr Njengere said.

Of the 49 accounts established last year, 22 Facebook accounts and 13 Telegram accounts were opened under Knec’s name, while the rest were opened under the names of other individuals.

There are currently 14 active Telegram accounts and seven active Facebook accounts, while 9 Telegram accounts and 19 Facebook accounts have been deactivated.

  • Kenya National Examination Council Dennis Pritt Road

In order to combat exam cheating, KNEC boss Dr Njengere held meetings and wrote to the authority proposing the formation of a multi-agency team comprised of the Council, the CCK, and the ICT Authority.

Njengere stated noted that Some scrupulous individuals have the habit of opening examination papers examination papers collection from the containers, photographing them, and then sharing these images on social media.

‘‘We regret to report that engaging Telegram and Signal has especially proved to be a challenge, as the latter platform has largely been non-responsive,’’ Chiloba said.
