6 CEOs and 67 Officers suspended over corruption and procurement irregularities

Six chief executive officers have been suspended by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei due to their alleged involvement in procurement irregularities and corruption within their respective organizations.

Furthermore, he oversaw the suspension of an accountant and 67 police officers from the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA).

The orders are in accordance with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission’s (EACC) recommendations regarding the suspension of the officers, who are presently the subject of an inquiry.

In correspondence with the corresponding Cabinet Secretaries of the implicated ministries, the EACC asserts that the mentioned officers’ prolonged tenure in office throughout the investigation will impede and compromise its operations.

State House Spokesman Hussein Mohamed said in a statement on Thursday night that the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service emphasized in issuing the directives that the Government is still committed to fighting corruption because, in his opinion, it jeopardizes its development agenda.

One of the CEOs on suspension is Tanathi Water Works Development Agency’s Eng. Fredrick Mwamati.

He was placed on leave while inquiries into the agency’s procurement practices were conducted.
