Former AG Muigai proposes that the opposition leader receive daily security briefs

Githu Muigai, a former attorney general, believes that the opposition leader ought to get daily security updates just like the president.

Speaking before the National Dialogue Committee (NDC), Muigai added that the post of opposition leader should be recognized by the constitution.

He also said that the opposition, which is a powerful political force, should be constitutionally permitted to function from Parliament and that its leader should be given special rights and state security.

He claimed that in a democracy, the opposition leader would receive the same level of security clearance and briefings as the President.

In order to better control the administration, President Ruto has declared that he is willing to establish and support the position.

He had however cautioned the opposition to operate within the guidelines of the Constitution and that he will offer them a hand in discharging their role.
