Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of the Wiper Party, has announced that he will run for president in the general elections of 2027.
With the backing of the other Azimio co-principals, Kalonzo expressed his confidence that he would prevail and become the sixth President.
He said that ODM leader Raila Odinga, who has endorsed him three times in a row, has suggested he would back his candidacy this time as the Alliance’s nominee.
At a fundraiser held on Saturday at the Kyua Catholic church in Yatta, Machakos County, the former vice president gave a speech.
He claimed that by uniting behind him for the presidency, Raila had signaled that he would this time around.
According to Kalonzo, the Wiper Democratic Alliance has started a nationwide membership drive in an effort to increase the party’s numerical strength before the upcoming elections.
He claimed that this was one of the steps being taken to strengthen the national base of support for his presidential candidacy.
Regarding the nation’s difficult economic times, Kalonzo praised Catholic bishops for what he called “standing for the truth.”
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, her deputy Francis Mwangangi, Woman Representative Joyce Kamene, MPs Robert Basil (Yatta) and Stephen Mule (Matungulu), and MCAs from Machakos, Kitui, and Makueni counties followed Kalonzo.
