KRA to auction unclaimed goods at airports including iphones and laptops

Several items that Kenyans failed to claim will be auctioned off by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) at the Moi (Mombasa) and Eldoret International Airports.

In a notice published on Saturday, the tax collector listed over 150 smartphone models, including Oppo, Vivo, and Samsung, along with iPhones as items scheduled for sale at the Eldoret airport on November 15.

During the exercise, e-cigarettes, music players, and feature phones—also referred to as kabambe will be sold.

In order to see the devices and learn more about the planned exercise, bidders who were interested in purchasing the gadgets were encouraged to visit the airport between November 13 and 14.

The Customs and Border Control Department said that the auction at Mombasa’s Moi International Airport would take place on December 18–20 in a separate gazette office dated Friday.

A few of the things on the Mombasa airport list are jewelry, stones, drones, secondhand laptops, and other articles of clothing.

The department stated that the items had either been left at the airport unclaimed or overstayed.

Therefore, before the formal exercise started, interested purchasers were asked to come to the airport to see the things.

The objects were to be viewed during November 14–15.

The agencies did not, however, offer specifics regarding the commodity pricing.

On the opposite side, a number of objects that have been declared illegal are scheduled for destruction at Mombasa airport.
