Learning Paralyzed in Migori Amid Anti-Government Protests

As a result of the ongoing anti-government demonstrations in Migori County, a number of learning institutions have been unable to operate.

Along the Rongo-Isebania highway, businesses was shuttered in the better part of the day and transportation paralysed.

Teachers Updates spot check on Wednesday revealed that a number of schools were closed and teachers were also absent.

The Migori Muslim primary school in Suna East Sub-County was closed because no students showed up as anticipated.

Abdi Fataha, chairman of the school’s governing council, stated that the parents chose not to release their children out of safety concerns.

If the demonstration persists, Fataha is concerned about the performance of the schools on the end-of-year examinations.

He stated that the government must hear the cries of Kenyans protesting the country’s excessive cost of living.

In the meantime, demonstrators and police engaged in street battles.

The police removed the barricades erected by the demonstrators, whose demonstrations began as early as 4:00 a.m., and dispersed the protesters with tear gas.

Raila Odinga, the leader of the opposition, had dispatched key members of the Azimio coalition to lead grassroots antigovernment demonstrations in different counties.
