New SRC Review: CJ Koome, DCJ Mwilu To Receive Huge Cash Benefits

Among the major beneficiaries of the most recent Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) assessment are judicial officers.

The paper obtained by Kenyans.co.ke states that court officers will receive a stipend that will only be given to those who carry out specific tasks.

Chief Justice Martha Koome, Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, and Deputy Principal Judges are among the judicial officials who stand to gain from the most recent review. They will each receive Ksh150,000 as a special allowance.

Thirty percent of monthly pensionable earnings will go to the Head of the Station, while resident judges will receive Ksh130,000.

Judges and magistrates who have additional responsibilities beyond what is specified in their conditions of service and for which they get regular pay will receive this stipend.

Additionally, judicial officers will receive up to Ksh25,000 in airtime each month.

Regarding the daily stipend for domestic and international travel, the review stated that the officers will receive compensation as determined from time to time by SRC.

Comparably, the annual leave allowance for the Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice, Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and High Court judges is Ksh50,000 per month.

In the meantime, Ksh30,000 will be given as an annual leave allowance to Chief Magistrates, Senior Principal Magistrates, Principal Magistrates, Senior Resident Magistrates, and Resident Magistrates.

A car loan of up to Ksh 10 million and a mortgage of up to Ksh 40 million are available to the Chief Justice and his Deputy.

Up to Ksh8 million and Ksh4 million in car loans, respectively, are available to judges and magistrates.

A mortgage of up to Ksh35 million and Ksh20 million, respectively, will also be available to them.

For the term of the loan, interest will be charged at a rate of three percent annually on a lowered balance. The mortgage is for twenty years, and the automobile loan is for five years.

Judges of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, and High Court shall be provided with official vehicles with engines no bigger than 3000cc for transportation.

Chief magistrates and Chief Kadhis would receive a monthly commuter allowance of Ksh24,000 along with an official vehicle with a capacity of no more than 2000cc.
