Joseph Ole Lenku, the governor of Kajiado, has maintained that he is still a proud member of the Orange Democratic Movement.
Speaking on Sunday during an interfaith prayer session that Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio, attended, Lenku stated he is not ashamed of his affiliation with the Opposition party.
He mentioned how much Azimio helped him win reelection in the general election held in August 2022 and how pleased he is to work with them.
Lenku expressed his gratitude to Raila, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua for taking time out of their hectic schedules to campaign for him.
Despite having earlier promised to cooperate with President William Ruto’s administration in defiance of the Azimio coalition’s directive, Lenku made these statements.
In January, Ole Lenku declared that elections were done and that he would always back Ruto.
The governor for a second term declared that even though they were in separate camps while in the “forest to look for God’s grace,” the moment had arrived for them to work together to establish the nation.
The governor emphasized that leaders cooperating rather than identifying with a certain party will shape the nation’s future.
Lenku criticized the Opposition in June for spearheading demonstrations against the government.
For the sake of the nation’s stability and peace, he urged that Ruto and Raila have a meeting and a conversation.
He stated that given the current circumstances and the skyrocketing cost of living, it was time for Kenyans to band together and support one another in order to survive.
