Pack of hyenas in Juja village kill a nine-year-old boy

A pack of hyenas killed a nine-year-old boy by mauling him, shocking the residents of Nyacaba village in Juja, Kiambu County.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening as the boy—who is reported to have been with five other people—was leaving church.

Residents claim that when a pack of hyenas attacked the boys, they fled for their lives, only for one of them to fall and be killed by the untamed animals.

The boy is a sixth-grader and the son of Peter Ngugi, the Witeithie Ward’s first MCA.

Locals Eliud Waboro and Peter Kinyanjui claim that the boy was attacked as his friends ran away.

When the boy’s parents arrived at the scene, they discovered his clothes and his severed hand after hearing the horrifying news and hearing him scream for help.

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) was criticized by the locals for not doing enough to keep wildlife away from their homes. They demanded immediate action to stop tragedies like this one from happening again.

They also charged landowners of vast tracts of undeveloped land that they claimed served as a sanctuary for untamed animals.
