Updates for Drivers Awaiting New Number Plates Released by NTSA

Number plates application

Applicants who received SMS alerts are being invited to pick up the new number plates by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

The number plates should be picked up at the locations that applicants chose throughout the application procedure, according to NTSA’s statement on Wednesday.

“We humbly request motor vehicle owners who have received SMS notifications on a collection of reflective number plates to visit the centres they identified during the application process,” peruse a portion of the update

Additionally, the government requested last week that drivers obtain smart driving licenses.

The NTSA has been advocating for all drivers to switch to digital, reflective, and feature-rich number plates from the outdated ones.

The Ministries of Transportation and Interior, subsequently led by Cabinet Secretaries Michael Kamau and Fred Matiang’i, respectively, introduced the plates in 2022.

The new license plates cost Ksh3,050 and allow drivers to select between square and oblong shapes.

Before drivers can obtain the license plates, the process is expected to take roughly two weeks.

But drivers have been complaining that they have been waiting up to two months for an update from the NTSA.

The deadline for applications has not yet been announced by NTSA since the implementation.

The distinctive letters and numbers on the new license plates are one of their highlights; they are a little out of proportion to prevent changes.

Additionally, the plates incorporate chips that hold information on the car, such as its kind, color, and manufacturing year.
